Let’s Talk About Habits…

We all have them…. good ones and bad ones. Nope, I am not talking about days or ideas. I am talking about habits.

Habits show the world the priorities you hold in your heart.

Think about that for a minute… what do your habits tell the world about you?

We all want a great life filled with love and good health. God even promises his children a full life. John 10:10 tells us that “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” So how do we get this abundant life?

You will find advice everywhere on ways to avoid bad habits and how to add “good” habits to your everyday life. Even in reading this blog you have read many good things to do for better health. But if we are just reading these words and do nothing differently we have gained some head knowledge but have not moved one step closer to that fuller life we long for.

This week I want to open the blog up to YOU. Let’s all have a conversation in a safe space.

With respect and encouragement for one another let’s talk about habits.

As an example, I want to tell you a story of a Godly woman who had a habit of cleaning her garage every Tuesday. She had done it for years (and had a very clean garage!) I am sure we can all agree that cleaning your garage is a good habit. But this habit done at that particular time was actually blocking her from a fuller life. She was asked to get involved in a ministry that took place on Tuesdays, the same time she cleaned her garage. Since she was busy on Tuesdays, she declined being a part of the ministry. However, after praying about letting go of this habit, and changing her schedule, she agreed to participate in the ministry and it became one of the biggest joys in her life.

Take a look at all of your habits. Are they healthy and glorifying to God? Think about everything you do that is customary for you to do.  Are there changes you desire to make…but feel stuck?

I would love to hear your stories about what worked when you wanted to change a habit. Did you have someone encourage you and hold you accountable? Let’s encourage each other in the comment section or take this conversation over to my Facebook page.

Here are some conversation starters on ways to implement a new habit:

– Crowd out a bad habit with a good one.
– Find an accountability partner.
– Remember it is about progress, not perfection! Baby steps lead to success.
– Make it a daily change. You must do it every day until you do it every day.

I am looking forward to your input. Let’s implement what we are learning and see the changes we desire in our lives!
